Methodology

How we research, and what our research cannot tell you

Our usefulness depends on being right, being clear about what we do not know, and showing our sources. These are the rules we work to.

Source hierarchy

We prefer the most authoritative source available for each claim, in this order:

  1. Multilateral institutions such as the World Bank, IMF and development banks
  2. The Guyana Bureau of Statistics and other primary statistical sources
  3. Ministries, agencies, legislation, budgets and official project documents
  4. Company filings, project documents and procurement records
  5. Credible industry publications and reporting, including foreign-government trade guides
  6. Interviews and local operator input, attributed where appropriate

Government investment-promotion material is useful for understanding official priorities. We do not treat it as independent proof that an opportunity is commercially attractive.

How every number is recorded

Each quantitative claim on this site is stored in a central register with its metric and definition, value and unit, reference period, source and publication date, a classification, and any material caveat. The classifications are:

  • Reported actual: a measured outcome for a completed period.
  • Estimate: a preliminary figure for a completed period, likely to be revised.
  • Forecast: a projection of a future period.
  • Plan or target: a government or company plan, allocation or goal.
  • As reported by source: a figure stated by the source that we have not been able to cross-check independently.

Editorial rules

  • We never mix forecasts and actuals without labelling them, and we do not compare half-year and annual rates as if they were the same.
  • We never turn a national growth rate into an implied return for a business.
  • We do not invent market-size estimates or use false precision when evidence is thin.
  • We distinguish announced projects, projects under construction and completed projects.
  • We state material uncertainties alongside the opportunity, not in a footnote.
  • We write original analysis rather than paraphrasing official pages.
  • We do not describe any company, project or partner as verified unless we have verified it, and we say how.

Dates and corrections

Every page lists the date its figures were last checked against their sources. We change that date only when we have actually re-checked. When we find a material error we correct it and note the correction on the page. To report an error, email hello@investingguyana.com.

Limits of public information

Public sources rarely show who is really buying, at what price, under which contract structure, or which local organisations are reliable counterparts. They also lag events. That is why tailored research for a client goes beyond this site: it combines public evidence with local enquiries and, where agreed, direct contact with potential counterparties. Even then, our research informs a decision; it does not replace legal, financial or technical due diligence.

Independence

InvestingGuyana.com is independent of government. We are not part of, or endorsed by, the Government of Guyana, GO-Invest or any other public body. Our published research does not promote any project, and if we, or anyone involved in a client's research, have an interest in a project we discuss with that client, we disclose it before the client relies on our work.
